A "Pangur Ban" az egyik legkorábbi macskákról szóló vers, egy IX. században élt ír szerzetes műve, melyben saját munkáját szeretett cicája, Pangur Ban ("fehér Pangur") egerészéséhez hasonlítja ("ő az egereket, én a szavakat űzöm-kergetem").
